Diamond cut alloys

Diamond cut wheels go milky when the lacquer fails and corrosion creeps under the cut face. We strip, repair and restore the diamond cut finish to factory-style spec.

Diamond cut work needs lathe access. Get in touch about how we handle yours - some jobs are done off-site at the partner workshop and returned, others on the road. We'll be straight with you about turnaround before any work starts.

Diamond cut wheels are the factory finish on a lot of premium German and Korean cars. The face is machined on a CNC lathe to leave a fine bright cut against a coloured pocket, then sealed under lacquer. When the lacquer fails - usually after 3-5 years - moisture gets in and the cut face goes milky white.

Restoring diamond cut wheels properly takes lathe access. We work with a partner workshop for the lathe step, with collection, refurb and return as part of the service. Mobile prep and lacquer happens at your address; lathe time happens off-site.

We'll be straight up front about turnaround. If we can do the whole job in a day, we will; if the wheels need to come with us for 24-48 hours for the lathe step, we tell you that before any work starts.

What you get

  • Lathe-cut face restoration
  • Lacquer corrosion repair
  • Kerb damage included where present
  • Honest turnaround quoted up front

How the work runs

  1. Inspect. We look at the wheels and confirm whether they're a candidate for diamond cut refurb or whether they've been re-cut too many times already.
  2. Plan. Mobile day on your driveway, or off-site at the partner workshop with collection and return - we'll tell you which before we book it.
  3. Strip and repair. Lacquer stripped back, kerb damage and corrosion repaired, pocket colour refinished as powder coat.
  4. Lathe cut. Face re-cut on the CNC lathe to a fine bright finish. This step needs workshop access and isn't done at the side of the van.
  5. Lacquer. Fresh diamond-cut-spec lacquer applied over the cut face and cured.
  6. Return and refit. Wheels back to you, refitted, torqued to spec.

Common questions

Diamond cut alloys FAQs.

  • Why have my diamond cut alloys gone milky white?

Lacquer failure. The clear coat over the cut face has cracked microscopically, water has got in between the lacquer and the alloy, and the alloy has oxidised. Once it's started, it spreads. Refurbishment is the fix.

  • Can you do diamond cut on the road?

The lathe step needs workshop access. Strip, repair and lacquer happen mobile; the lathe cut happens off-site. We'll explain the workflow before any work starts so you know what to expect.

  • How many times can a wheel be re-cut?

Generally three to four times before the face gets too thin to cut safely. We measure on inspection. If a wheel is past that point we'll recommend going to a flat powder finish in the original pocket colour.

  • How much extra is diamond cut over standard repair?

Lathe time and the diamond-cut-spec lacquer add cost over a like-for-like standard refurb. We quote per set after inspection - send a photo to start.

  • Will it look like factory?

Yes - same lathe, same lacquer chemistry, same pocket colours. The finish is to factory-style spec.
